We have a number of special Holiday events happening at The Art Center. See page 3 of the Winter 2012 Course Catalog for the full list. Our annual Holiday Craft Show and Sale will be December 3 and 4. Be sure to stop by and pick up unique gifts, fresh centerpieces and wreaths, and fabulous gift baskets. On Thursday, December 1, we are looking for volunteers to help create our centerpieces. No experience needed, just holiday cheer. We will guide you through the process and give you lunch too. The centerpieces will be sold to benefit The Art Center’s programs.
We plan to start 2012 with a bang at our school. To help you decide which classes are right for you, we are offering a series of FREE demo classes Monday, December 12 through Saturday, December 17 and January 10 through 14. See more information on page 3.
I can’t remember a time when we were able to add so many new classes. To lead our new classes, I am pleased to announce that we have added several instructors to our team. Catherine Prescott will be offering three Oil Portrait Painting Workshops. If you have some oil painting experience and are interested in portrait painting, start with Workshop I and progress through the series and truly build your observational skills. Marshall Fettro will teach a series of Floral Design classes; in each class you will learn a different floral design technique and produce a professional looking arrangement to take home. We have also added a Digital Photography class taught by Andy Hoff. Ron Schloyer, our Keystone National judge, will be teaching two great new watercolor classes; Wet-On-Wet Watercolor and Watercolor for Everyone. Jackie Madsen will teach us how to “Rescue and Recycle Unsuccessful Artworks” – a class I know I would benefit from. Jackie will also teach sessions on Portfolio Development- a must take class for college/art school bound teens. Sue Marrazzo will be offering Pop ART-NOW for teens and Creative Collage for Adults. Kent Roberts will show you how to master Landscapes in Watercolor. And finally Julie Riker will be teaching Drawing 101, a great place to start or refresh your skills. Learn a little bit more about our newest team members on page 7.
Some of our long-time instructors are offering new courses. Check out Michael Peluso’s Date Night with Glassblowing – a unique and fun way to spend an evening with someone special. Ralph Hocker is hosting Open Studio sessions on Saturday morning. Pat Wertz will lead you from Drawing into Painting where an accurate drawing becomes the foundation for a finished painting. Please take a few minutes to review all of the course descriptions, call us if you have any questions and register for your favorites. Winter is a great time to take an art class …or two! And remember that Classes make wonderful Holiday Gifts.
2012 Exhibits are sure to be worth the trip to the barn. The Susquehanna Valley Plein Air Painters Exhibit at The Art Center will be held December 10, 2011 to January 13, 2012. Join us in welcoming this group of talented landscape painters at a reception Saturday, December 10 from 1 to 3 pm. January 14 to February 4 is a celebration of The Art of Pastel Painting with Donna Mitchell and Friends. Don’t miss the reception Saturday, January 14 from 2 to 4 pm and a demonstration by Donna. Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be complete without our annual Champagne and Chocolate Reception (Saturday, February 11 from 5 to 7 pm). The reception includes demonstrations on floral design and glassblowing. Don’t miss the fun!
Best wishes,
Jeannine Swartz, Executive Director
